Real Life: June 26th - 28th: Dead Celebrities & Heat Waves

So not only do a couple of pop culture icons and a pin up girl pass away this week, but also there's a massive heat wave settled right in on the Lou with no intention of going anywhere any time soon. How do you cope with the loss of MJ and the 90 degree heat? Lying on the cold, concrete basement floor listening to Thriller comes to mind... but that's a pretty sorry image. Bug and I watched Captain EO last night, and I woke up with that song stuck in my head. If you haven't watched that (movie? music video? short film?) work of art yet, I highly suggest it as an exercise in surrealism and WTF-ism. Seriously. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, produced by George Lucas, co-starring Angelica Houston. Captain EO. Go watch it. I'll wait.

The rest of my weekend? Something like this....

Tonight: Dinner at EBL. I read this Q&A on the proper method of consuming the salted goodness of a margarita, and it made me all crave-y. Go read it. It'll make you want a margarita too. I'll wait.

Tomorrow: Getting my hair cut, bumming around in the Loop, trying not to sweat to death. Anything going on that evening?

Sunday: Lying around in the AC. Turning my hose onto the mist setting and lying around under that for a while. Maybe filling the tub with ice water, lying around in that.

How about you?

There is something at Snowflake tonight as well. The New Currency or something.

Matty F is guesting in a band at Mangia Saturday night.

Soccer Sunday? Pretty please?

Lots of other things I am sure.

Tonite: We'll see. Porkchop Jr. Jr.'s been falling asleep at, like, 7:00 the last few days, so that may preclude at least some of us from dining out. If he's awake and in good spirits, we're all up for EBL, I imagine. Also there's an art opening at Snowflake/Citystock tonight, so maybe I'll try to sneak out for a minute to check that out.

Saturday: Either sitting directly in front of the AC, or leaving the house to look for lower temperatures elsewhere. Awaiting the promised cold front coming through in the night.

Sunday: Futbol! USA v. Brazil. Some people are planning on watching at Amsterdam, St. Louis' only soccer bar, which also happens to be the closest bar to our house. Can you bring a baby to a bar if it's in the middle of the day, and just to watch soccer, and it's smoke-free? If not, then I'll be looking for other ways to keep occupied.

How is it that someone is planning on watching soccer and I do not already know about it? Some friends I have.

Check your e-mail, PJL -- you've already offered to buy us all pizza!  Others are welcome to join us for the game, as well, of course.

You sent that to my Yahoo! account? In what crazy world do they allow you to check your web-based email at work? Oh, all of you can?

Is that pizza to be delivered directly to the Amsterdamn?

Also, if you enjoy sweating, looking at dogs, or some combination of the two, check out the Morgan Ford Pet Parade at noon on Saturday. Should be mercifully short, at least, and there are promises of ice water drinking bowls along the way. Yum! We might head up there just to hear Porkchop Jr. Jr. say "Awk, awk!" as he does when he sees dogs now.

Someone in that Q&A referred to margaritas as "gauche". What the hell is that poser talking about? I *do* like this quote, though: "I could be wrong, but after approximately 59,047,309,827 margaritas on the rocks my research is still in its infancy.

I'll let you know when it's conclusive."

I work. Outside. All weekend. Live music tonight, Members' annual picnic early in the evening tomorrow, and check out this event later in the evening: We are showing ET on Art Hill for free on Saturday night at 9 p.m. That might be fun.

Sunday evening, I will recover by playing my first ever game of D&D. I was given homework to read for this. It made me nervous, but I think it will still be fun.

Hi everybody. This is Dan Z. (long time / first time) calling. I'm psyched on crazy burritos and margaritas tonight. 7 o'clock?

I have to work all day tomorrow with a fan pointed 6 inches away from my face then spend the evening trying to break in a new pair of flip-flops.

Same for Sunday, then seeing BONE AWL and MARK LORD in the basement of APOP in the evening.

Hope to see y'all at some point! Even though I have no idea who is who with these nicknames.

I think this was my favorite quote from the margarita Q&A, "Who are these cocktail imperialists forcing straws on you? Rise up, sibling, and throw off the yoke of strawpression. Shout arriba after each lickslurp and really rub their noses in it."

I'm fine with dinner at 7:30 since that gives me approximately half a second to sit down at home before heading out again. If the baby demands we eat at 7:00, I'm sure we can accommodate that. What say you Coral?

I will be at EBL, I suppose.

Hi, Dan Z. I just created an account myself after a very long time of refusing to get on the stupidest version of Geeklife ever.

Said baby slept for 3+ hours today, so he should be up for dinner tonight. He would probably prefer 7:00, if at all possible. You should just ditch work early - I heard your lame-o boss doesn't even work in your building right now - he'd never catch you!

# re: Real Life: June 26th - 28th: Dead Celebrities & Heat Waves

When I was talking about the baby, I was not talking about Dan. I was obviously referring to Porkchop Jr. Jr. don't ya know.

And dinner at 7pm is fine if that's preferred.

The Ping & I will be dreaming of burritos and guacamole whilst we sleep this evening. The Ping already has a head start on me. Late night last night. Enjoy! Oh, and who is the mysterious PJLime? Identify yourself!

I don't know why I hadn't thought of that mist spray setting. If we can figure out where / how to prop that up right, we've basically got a water park.

I enjoy the thought of the pet parade, but not the temperature of it. We'll see, it's close enough I may still try to venture out. I'll be the one dressed up as the pot-bellied pig, what are you guys going as?

Soccer, Sunday? Sure, sounds swell. See some suckers soon-ish.

Dave - totally saw you at the parade. You were the only one not dressed as a dog. Seriously. There was one pig there. And for the record, not really THAT hot in the shade. Plus free donuts.
