Well, we're nearing the time again for the second biggest costume holiday of the year (behind Valentine's Day, of course): Remember, remember the somethingth of November. And this year it's going to be the first, what with Halloween falling on a Friday and all. Plus, I'll be out of town the next week, and as I haven't yet perfected the robo-virtual-bionic me, I'd like to have the party while I'm in town. So theme-wise, here's what we've got: Song titles. That is, dress up in a manner such that there is some possibility someone may see you and say "Ah, you're that one song!" Some of our regulars have suggested a penalty or punishment for overly obscure songs (I believe the ostracization goes like this: "Oh, you're that one Beck song!") but others have whole-heartedly embraced the idea of you having to explain to all of us about this one cool band you once heard and this crazy great song they played for you. So I leave that up to you. The party, as many parties often do, is said to start at 9pm. That'll mean a lot of you won't be here 'til 10pm, but what, I'm gonna say 8pm and then someone shows up at 7:30 and I'm only halfway into my SexyBack dress? So, yes, 9pm is when I'll be expecting you. If things go as they have in the past, we'll wind down in the hour or three past midnight, likely with someone doing a go-go dance of some sort on my front porch pillar. What is this, the 10th year? I can't keep track of these things. Anyway, I hope you can make it, and I look forward to seeing your tunez.

Well, I'm exhausted. I stayed up too late, got up too early, and I need to collapse. Unfortunately, in my chattiness while heading to bed I also managed to massively disrupt Prof. Hotpant's rest. I'm going to have to play it by ear for tonight's dining festivities, as right now it seems like a much better idea to lay down. After dinner, aforementioned PHP will be spinning DJing at the Royale. I will be there, awake or not! Then Saturday's pretty busy, and Sunday's hopefully a total do-nothing day. What are you up to this weekend?

St. Louis MO July 11th, 2008 Last weekend marked the first time in a while that the Fylers saw 4-on-4 hockey, and that was still missing some veterans like Tom S, Donald W, Johnny G, and Michael F. Maybe we're getting a long fine without you guys. You Read More...

07/04/08 St.Louis Nothing pithy here this week. Weather appears to want to accommodate us this week. Will the numbers return the favor? Last week was a light week, but we managed to see a couple of new faces. Fatigue and weather brought an early close Read More...

It's a bit of an uncertain weekend for me. Tonight, I may or may not make it to Happy Life. I may be sleeping, or I may have gotten last minute plans. I'll have to make some decisions in the next couple hours. Given all that, you guys should decide where you'd like to go to Happy Life. I'm happy to offer a suggestion, though: How about Mangia?
Tomorrow day, I've got some housework and minor grocery shopping to do. Tomorrow night, I'll be hanging out in my backyard. Sunday is Father's Day, but my dad's 750 miles away, so I'll likely take care of the 'hanging out' via a phone call. After that, I may find another dad to hang out with, or I may do some bookended housework, hopefully involving finally moving a bit more into our new office setup, and finish off this dastardly project (and start on the next dastardly project). We're basically half-way through 2008, how's it been treating you so far?

It's the weekend, what are we doing for it? Tonight, we're going to dinner. How about Four Seasons? Tomorrow, we're going to a picnic at 4pm in Forest Park. Unless it rains, in which case we'll have to reschedule. The rest of the weekend we're clearing out the home office to get some nice new home office furniture next week! And maybe next week I'll get my TV back. And maybe some time after that, we can actually have people see the house without it being a disaster-area. Aside from that, I look forward to seeing Izzy lose a few more games for the Cards. What are you doing this weekend?

*note: The Fylers would like to welcome the latest addition to the Fylers staff. What better way to battle the crippling dip in team morale than with some hackneyed pseudo-psycho babble. Dear Fyler Phil So I'll just come right out and say it: I'm a hockey Read More...

4/25/08 St. Louis With the chance of two weekends in a row dwindling as weather reports roll in, the word 'curse' can no longer be ignored. While we're not ready to be lumped in the same company with the Cubbies just yet, there's undeniable proof that Read More...

The Cardinals are doing well. Really well. They're currently 10-4, tied for the best record in baseball, but, more relevantly, standing alone at the top of the Central Division. They're not supposed to do well. It's a bit of a rebuilding year, trying out new guys, shifting people back and forth from the minor leagues, and letting a few guys back in recovering from their injuries. Most people into following the Cardinals are generally hoping to end the season as well, or maybe a few games better than last year, when we went 78-84. My own thought was that it'd be a successful season if they ended up 81-81, or .500 winning percentage. But for now they're in first. It's fun to see, but it's just not likely to last. Jason Toon suggested we do a Geeklife pool on when the Cardinals will stop being in first place in their division. His pick is June 3rd, unless he wants to revise that in this thread. I'm actually even less optimistic, and I'll pick May 12th, the last game of a series against the Brewers, who I expect to then move into first. I know most of you aren't as into baseball as I am, but what the hey, throw a date out that you think we'll no longer be leading the central division. Heck, you could even guess that we'll lead the division the whole way through and end up winning it if you're feeling particularly lucky. Meanwhile, I went to a game last night and...it was...far...too...cold. Even thinking about it slowed down my typing just then. Here's a pic of the guy sitting next to us:

This afternoon, over at the Shop 'N Save parking lot I happened on this car that made me chuckle:
(Click to view the original shot.) I was a tad intimidated, as the guy was in the car, so I didn't get quite close enough. I believe it reads: ATTENTION Police If AN Old White Guy is NOT DRiViNG THIS CarS ITs BEEN JACKED again I considered calling the police, as an old white guy was in the car, but I don't believe he was technically driving it.
