Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

yo, y'all, whut up?

Tonight, I'm down for some sort of victuals. If I recall, we are not supposed to do TGIF until Sept. 4, so what's up for this weekend? (no cumin-heavy foods, plz)

Tomorrow, I will try to go: to the farmer's market, to my first gym class, to catch some friends/colleagues reading from Ovid's Metamorphosis as part of a two-day marathon at the Pulitzer, to the concert/BBQ at Apop, to play nerd games with Ezz and Ima, and something in the evening that I can't quite remember right now. Whew! How about you?

Sunday: sleeping in, shopping for a bookshelf, picking up a Hamcake!, and dinner with Xian's moms.

Rest of the week: Picking up after the dog.

 How's 'bout 'chall?

the rest of my life: picking up after the dogs

I thought TGIF was the 28th but I could be wrong. I am ready, though, for it.

Not gonna make the HappyLife tonight.

Cheers!

Bug managed to bump the Oakridge Boys out of a cottage at our favorite B&B this weekend, so surprise roadtrip and relaxing for us!

Have fun doing whatever you all are doing this weekend. If you need me, I will be in the hot tub.

Yep, they seem really busy what with concerts and all, but I'm hoping to at least see that one guy with the really long beard. I hope I don't accidentally call them the Allman Brothers, now.

Enjoy the weekend, youse guys.

Tonight: Stopping by my school's back-to-school BBQ, but eating real food with friends at some Happylife somewhere. Where? I can't say.

Saturday: Hopefully gamin'? If a baby's old enough to walk, he's old enough for Munchkin, right?

Sunday: Perhaps seeing Hamcake?

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

Reschedule: Hamcake on Monday due to Xian's work hours (as he's the one paying for this hound).

"favorite b&b"??? JC, just get a subscription to Martha Stewart Living already. :)

I'm up for din-din and gamin'. And soccer watchin' (yeah for EPL on ESPN!).  I'd like to put in a vote for TGIF for next Friday, if possible, so as we can use the "Bring Your Own Butt-Buddy" coupon, which expires on the 31st. (On a side note, did anyone else ever use the phrase "butt-buddies" growing up -- not in a homophobic way, but in a "these people need to get their own opinion" way, as in "Of course Scotty hates apples, because Justin hates apples and they're butt-buddies." -- or was that just in my neighborhood?)

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

No, it was always homophobic.

Maybe that's just the way you interpreted, JOHN!

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

if porkchop and pj are using their butt buddies coupon tonight, the rest of us can go somewhere else!!

i was thinking ethiopian sounded amazing, but i think demanda wants to stay away from that kind of thing.  other than the crazy mexican food place, what else is there??

let raygun and i know where the party at, and you all just might get lucky tonight.

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

Just to cement my reputation for being needlessly crude albeit with a certain twist of naïveté, I will submit for your approval that we also, in my neighborhood, used the term "butt buddies". And I never thought of it referring to homosexuals. I always thought it was more like you were Siamese twins, joined at the butt.

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

You people are as naïve as it gets. I think I remember that Brad had a "My Buddy" doll as well. Gah.

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

1) Precisely, Ping -- all up in each others butts figuratively, not literally.

2) I did not have a "My Buddy" doll. It was an ACTION FIGURE.

3) Ethiopian isn't all cumin-y, is it? If DeManda says it's OK, then I vote for that...

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

My cousin had a small breakdown about his My Buddy doll the year that "Child's Play" came out. I remember him pacing back and forth, greatly agitated, going: "I love My Buddy. I hate My Buddy. I love My Buddy."

The question that this story raise is: who let a five-year-old boy watch "Child's Play"?

Also, other than its resemblance to the doll-vessel into which the soul of a homicidal killer has transmigrated, BY VOODOO, what is wrong with a My Buddy doll? Nothing, I say! Wherever you go, he's going too!

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

Butt-buddies always meant gay. Stop fooling yourselves. In my school, if you had a "butt-buddy" then you were almost certainly a "gayfer".

But I digress. Ethiopian always good.

Its too bad that Deer and Bird went out of town on the perfect (read: no prof and bug)weekend for TGIF. It's like a showdown is being forced.

Fun

That's all.

I will make a rare Happy Life appearance next Friday when we DO go to TGIF.

If'n you're looking for something to do tonight, I'll be spinning at the Royale.

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

Oh... And I weigh in that Butt Buddies has always been gay. You people were just a little too naive to realize it.

Ping: I recently went to the Esquire to see "Orphan", and the only other people there was a family consisting of a mom, an 8-yr-old, and a 4-yr-old (approximate guess on the ages).

Po'kchop: Next Friday Xian has a comedy show at the Sci-Fi Lounge, so I def. won't be there, and I *was* going to try to get other people to go, too...

Unable to make Happy Life tonight. Busy taking over a small, imaginary part of the world. Enjoy your weekends!

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

Yes, you guys should totally eat Ethiopian tonight, because I don't like it. There, I've said it. I have tried to like it, and have eaten as many different things as possible at a number of different restaurants, but I just don't like it.

I also don't like TGIF, so you guys should eat there next week. I'll be at the ballgame next Friday, eating beers for dinner.

Also I'm siding with the non-sexual terminology on "butt buddies". We were young, we thought the word "butt" was hilarious. That's all.

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

Ethiopian it is. The place on Grand, I'm assuming. Of course, Porkchop Jr. Jr. seems to think that 30 minutes of sleeping in the car is the same as his usual 2.5 hour nap, so we may end up pushing for take-out somewhere or missing the whole event when he falls asleep at 5:00... Rrrr.

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

I also hate Ethiopian food. I am not sure why anyone eats it. I don't classify it as an ethnic food as that way I can still say I love all ethnic cuisines. It tastes like something that washed up from the ocean. I have tried it too many times.

Cheers!

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

I'd be up for Ethiopian--specifically the one on Grand.

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

@Demanda:

Yikes! I can MAYBE see the 8-year-old...but even that seems kind of young.

@Prof:

Am I still young? 'Cause I still think the word "butt" is hilarious. Perhaps this is the consequence of my having watched things that I was too young to watch as a child. (See: Twin Peaks, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Bram Stoker's Dracula, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Gremlins, Ghostbusters, The Navigator: An Odyssey Across Time...). Incestuous rape and murder! Cross-dressing! Vampires! Tools! Monsters! Ghosts! The Bubonic Plague!

I need to go lie down.

Tools?

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

@pingotsis - that's so funny that you were "too young" to watch Twin Peaks when it originally aired. Makes me feel old, that one!

Friday, August 21, 2009 3:22 PM by PJLime

# re: Real Life: August 21 to 23-ish

@Porkchop Jr.:

"It's about tools" was my dad's explanation for the meaning of 2001: A Space Odyssey when I asked him about it. I was somewhere in the range of 7-years-old when I watched this movie for the first time, and I Did. Not. Understand.

@PJLime:

I was eight! Waaay too young. I loved it, though, even though it burned several scary images into my subconscious FOREVER!
