Well, we're nearing the time again for the second biggest costume holiday of the year (behind Valentine's Day, of course): Remember, remember the somethingth of November. And this year it's going to be the first, what with Halloween falling on a Friday and all. Plus, I'll be out of town the next week, and as I haven't yet perfected the robo-virtual-bionic me, I'd like to have the party while I'm in town. So theme-wise, here's what we've got: Song titles. That is, dress up in a manner such that there is some possibility someone may see you and say "Ah, you're that one song!" Some of our regulars have suggested a penalty or punishment for overly obscure songs (I believe the ostracization goes like this: "Oh, you're that one Beck song!") but others have whole-heartedly embraced the idea of you having to explain to all of us about this one cool band you once heard and this crazy great song they played for you. So I leave that up to you. The party, as many parties often do, is said to start...

Word. Tonight I'm feeling like eating tofu donuts. Maybe we've been to Lemongrass recently, but I don't care. I'm really in the mood for batter dipped, deep fried, tofu donut deliciousness. Dang. After that I will be DJing at the Royale. Starts at 10PM and my parents might be there, so please show up and act like you're all really into the music and you really really like it. I've also had Olivia Newton John stuck in my head all day. Consider that fair warning. Of an awesome storm brewing! All right. Tomorrow & Sunday: I think the Bug & I are going to be painting the living room. At least we should be. If you see us doing something else, you should feel free to mock us for our refusal to face the facts that the living room will not paint itself. If only! Someone get on that. Self-painting walls. Genius! Million dollar idea! Anyway, we can only paint so much. We'll probably be up for food Saturday evening and a good excuse to get out of a paint-fumey house. What does your weekend...

Kicking off the 2008-2009 season in Hockeytown, here's Def Leppard lead singer Joe Elliott standing hockey's holy grail on its head. See, this is why the Vs. network should have booked Rush. Basically the same fan demographic, and I bet those guys — Officers of the Order of Canada, all — know which side of Stanley's the top....

Hey, I think it might be fall! At least right now it feels like fall! You know, it's very fall-ish out there. It's pretty cool. Get it? Huh? COOL. Yep, I know. Here's the plans: Tonight: Bug suggested Maniga. I have no objections. What say the lot of you? Tomorrow: No idea. Seriously, none at all. Maybe the usual weekend faves of laundry/knitting, followed by... I don't know... food or something. Sunday: Birthday lunch for a cousin's 21st. Even with my huge family's scaled back birthday schedue (1st, 30th, 50th and sometimes 21st) we still have two this month. It's kinda nuts, really. What are you going to be doing and/or inviting me to do as well?...

So tonight there are many thing going on. Apparently Mr. McCain did find a teensy bit of time in his personally saving the American economy from utter, irrevocable collapse to squeeze in a minor little debate for the Presidency of the United States. You can go watch that at the Royale, if you like. If you're a-political, you could go to the Art Museum and see the delightful act that Amanda rounded up. I hear there's even gonna be a bar. If you hate politics and music, you could go eat someplace. Me & the Bug won't be doing any of those things because we're going to see some guys play some baseball. Those guys will be the Cardinals. And we'll be seeing a lot of them this weekend as it's the end of the season for us. Tomorrow, hopefully something outdoors-ish during the day and then a New Year's party in the evening. Sunday will involve more baseball. So there. What are you up to this-a-weekend?...

Hi, Y'all! I'm in KC for a conference, sorta shopping for performers for Museum programs. I've seen some awesome stuff, as well as a few things that may scar me for life (like the woman who played Gershwin's "Summertime" on violin whilst doing body contortions--the performance ended with a dramatic kung-fu demo. Gershwin would be proud.) (Be warned--I picked up her dvd to "share" with all of you.) Tonight, while you guys are enjoying dinner, I'll be seeing more music and the like, (i.e. enjoying free booze), hopefully followed by more showcases and perhaps finally escaping the convention center and getting out into KC--maybe someone good is playing, seeing as I'm missing the Detroit Cobras in St. Louis tomorrow night. Saturday: more conference, and then not getting to see the Detroit Cobras in St. Louis. I may actually get to go to a Museum or two. Sunday: Home! Is anyone doing anything fun Sunday night? What is St. Louis doing?...

Blech. It's muggy and sticky out. Let's stay indoors, shall we? Tonight, I'm going to a lecture on Arms & Armor, then on to an art show at Hoffman LaChance, and then Imma bowl some. Whatchoo funna do? Tomorrow, I will go to a Stray Rescue event and look at dogs. I will also maybe get a food with some pals and then go see that Polanski documentary at Webster in the evening--is anyone interested? Sunday: Work, followed by maybe another Polanski-film-related thing....

Hello Fall! I think. Maybe. It's probably going to be 90 degrees tomorrow, but right now it's all drizzly and cool. Kind of nice, really. Good spicy food weather. Tonight: I kind of would like to try this Mango place, which has intrigued me for a while, but I've never visted due it's unfortunate location in the Mackenzie Point strip mall. It's apparently quite good, though, according to this review in Sauce and the menu has lots of tasty-looking dishes on it. It's even got delicious-sounding vegetarian items for $10 or less. I haven't actually been there, so I don't know how it would work size-wise for us. Dave is claiming that maybe you all went there sometime a long time ago for Happy Life. If we are feeling less adventurous, may I suggest ye olde standard EBL? Let me know what sounds good to you. Tomorrow: I don't know yet. Probably gardening (aka chopping down massive overgrowth with sharp things). Hopefully knitting (I'm finishing a lovely cabled scarf and am super excited to start...

Also known as: Labor Day Weekend Likes: Picnics, BBQs, lounging by poolside, sunbathing, just hanging with friends Dislikes: Labor, work, anything requiring too much effort Dream Date: Overeating, drinking too much, then sleeping late the next morning! Hello fellow laborers! What does this fine, lengthy, leisurely weekend offer you? Here's how mine's shaping up.... Tonight: Food! I think we should definitely hit Grand tonight. I'm in the mood for a good curry. Basil Spice, anyone? It seems less crowded than King & I, and therefore more like we'll get seats. If you hate this idea, we could try Mangia instead. Later Tonight: Housewarming party. Actually, it's more of an apartment warming party. I will only be able to attend briefly as a good friend I have not seen since college will be in town, and this is the only night we can hang out and talk about all the ridiculous stuff we did while living in England. Good times. Tomorrow: Getting pretty for a wedding on Sunday. I'd be up for dinner...

Well, I'm exhausted. I stayed up too late, got up too early, and I need to collapse. Unfortunately, in my chattiness while heading to bed I also managed to massively disrupt Prof. Hotpant's rest. I'm going to have to play it by ear for tonight's dining festivities, as right now it seems like a much better idea to lay down. After dinner, aforementioned PHP will be spinning DJing at the Royale. I will be there, awake or not! Then Saturday's pretty busy, and Sunday's hopefully a total do-nothing day. What are you up to this weekend?...

Cripes! It's August and it feels like it! I'm staying inside, thank you very much, as no one wants to see what my hair does in this sort of weather. I accidentally ate a dog biscuit yesterday (I thought it was a cookie), and would like to see that the weekend goes up from there, not down, so how are you going to help me out with that? Tonight, I'll work late, then toast GL Pal Alisa as she celebrates the ending of her year-long post as the bearded fellow at the the Art Hut. We'll be at the Royale after eight or so. Join us! After, I will possibly drink wine with Deer while she tells me how to make my apartment more presentable. Tomorrow, it's a Pepper-Party! Shower in the a.m., and bachelorette in the p.m. I'm making goodie bags (which is, indirectly, what led to to me eating a dog biscuit)! Sunday I work, and then I recover. Whatchoo doin?...

I can't really believe it's another weekend already. In my world, this past week has flown by in quite a hurry. Without too much fanfare, the weekend made a gentle entrance and a soft "hmm-hmm" clearing of the throat to announce its arrival. Then it yelled, "Holla at your boy!" and I was floored. How's your weekend shaping up? Tonight: Oh that's right, it's Tropicana time. Guacamole. Margaritas. Probably a Mariachi band. Delicious. Saturday: Putting in the new upstairs AC unit (take two). Buying new air filters. Wondering if I should buy stock in Home Depot. I'll probably be up for food that evening, so let me know if you're hungry, too. Sunday: Puttering around the house. Doing stuff. Also, in case you haven't heard, next Saturday, July 26th, Shirt.Woot is having their first birthday party at the Royale. You should totally come. It's going to be rad. You can find out all the details here ....

St. Louis MO July 11th, 2008 Last weekend marked the first time in a while that the Fylers saw 4-on-4 hockey, and that was still missing some veterans like Tom S, Donald W, Johnny G, and Michael F. Maybe we're getting a long fine without you guys. You Read More......

Hey everybody, it's free Slurpee day! At least I think so. Do they still do that? Anyway, it's also John's birthday! Whoo-hoo! What else is going on this weekend? Tonight: Birthday Happy Hour. Going to see the Screwed In show at the RAC. Happy Life (Bug suggests we try Thai Pizza Company in the Loop). Then I'm off to the Royale to spin records, starting at 10pm. Tomorrow: Sleeping in. Cleaning gutters. Repositioning rain spouts. Repairing a ping-pong ball sized hole that turned our basement into a sinking ship during that crazy storm on Tuesday. I have never seen so much water come into a room, so fast. This included filling up the bathtub. It was crazy. Remember those Leakfrogs we gave to our homeowning friends for Christmas? Use them. I don't know what sort of disaster it would have been otherwise. Sunday: Hopefully sleeping in again. Probably still doing home repairs. Maybe napping some more. Trying not to think of home repairs. So what's your plan for the weekend?...

Here's the scoop. I'm going to Florida tomorrow morning at like, dawn, or something ridiculous. I don't know. I don't get up that early usually, so I don't even know what goes on then. I figure the sun must rise at some point, and that's probably pretty early on a summer morning. Due to said early rising and resulting travel, I have to go to bed early tonight. So I'll probably have to skip out on Happy Life. Oh yeah, I'm thinking EARLY. Anyway, there's only the remotest, very slightest chance that any moment of my night won't be filled with last-minute packing, frantic iPod filling and debating how many tiny bottles of hair product I can cram into a quart sized plastic bag... so I don't think it's fair to suggest where you guys should all eat. I'll be on the beach the rest of the weekend. Or hiding from the billions of thunderstorms that are supposed to happen while I'm there. The kitty-watching and house-sitting details have been taken care of, so don't all rush to volunteer. What are...

First of all, the Geeklife numbers have increased by one. Baby Porkchop Jr. III comes home today (I believe), so give the proud 'rents a shout out, will you? Second, was anyone else awoken in the middle of the night (say 1:30am or so) by a tremendous clap of thunder? I seriously thought I'd wake up this morning to the street over turned into a crater by some natural disaster bomb. The windows rattled. I have never been particularly scared of the weather (unless its going to mess up my hair or new shoes), but this freaked me right out. I do no approve, weather! Third, we need food. I have no idea what to suggest since I have no idea who's interested in attending. If everybody wants to come, that's a very different restaurant requirement that if only a few people want to come. I'd love to go to Katie's Pizza, but if there's more than 4-6 people that would be just about impossible on a Friday night. Joel suggested Square One Brewery in Lafayette Square, which might accommodate more people,...

It's a bit of an uncertain weekend for me. Tonight, I may or may not make it to Happy Life. I may be sleeping, or I may have gotten last minute plans. I'll have to make some decisions in the next couple hours. Given all that, you guys should decide where you'd like to go to Happy Life. I'm happy to offer a suggestion, though: How about Mangia? Tomorrow day, I've got some housework and minor grocery shopping to do. Tomorrow night, I'll be hanging out in my backyard. Sunday is Father's Day, but my dad's 750 miles away, so I'll likely take care of the 'hanging out' via a phone call. After that, I may find another dad to hang out with, or I may do some bookended housework, hopefully involving finally moving a bit more into our new office setup, and finish off this dastardly project (and start on the next dastardly project). We're basically half-way through 2008, how's it been treating you so far?...

Why is every Friday night thunderstorm night? Can't a girl eat outside on a patio? Seriously, that's all I really want. So I was hoping to suggest La Tropicana, but the evening is predicted to be a wash out *again* so that might not be a good idea. They have a big tent thing covering the patio, but it still might not be wise if there's lightning or lots of wind or hail like last weekend. There are about a billion things going on on Cherokee Street tonight, including Mark Early's performance with Shed Shot at Fort Gondo, so maybe we should eat over there. There's a new Thai place called Basil Spice at 3183 South Grand Boulevard, it's good food, it's a big space and the people seem nice. What say we sup there this fine evening? Saturday: Finishing up the office, assembling the last bits of furniture, filing the paperwork, plugging in the electronics, and pitching a bunch of garbage that has been moved multiple times for no good reason. Then I want to eat Indian food, which I've been craving...

Ahhh... the first of June. Don't you just love the sound of it? Doesn't it promise picnics and barbeques and lazy days doing nothing at all? Truth is, though, it's going to be a weekend of labor for me and Bug: removing a bit of wallpaper, repainting the walls, and putting together furniture for the home office. In a short while, I'll have a place to put my important paperwork! Hooray! Well, here's the plan for the weekend as far as I know it... Tonight: Dinner. We're thinking that new place in the (gasp) strip mall that's at the northeast corner of Kingshighway and Chippewa, I think it's called Joe Bush's Pizza and Pub. We had it for lunch earlier in the week, and it's good pizza. It's in the actual strip mall, on the end closest to Starbucks and Cold Stone Creamery. It's not on the end with PetSmart. It's also not Little Ceaser's, which has crappy pizza. It's also got close and easily accessible parking, which will be a big plus in this crazy rain/hail storm that's supposed to hit this...

It's a holiday weekend! There is so much to do! Tonight I work late, and then I don't know what I'm doing, but I hear my boyfriend has super secret plans in store. On Saturday, I may go to the Joe-B-Que, I may get sucked into working, I may unpack stuff...the possibilities are endless! Come Sunday, I work again (it's African Arts Festival weekend in the park--you should check it out), and then I sally forth for an onion-flavored bbq. So...what's on for Monday?...

It's the weekend, what are we doing for it? Tonight, we're going to dinner. How about Four Seasons? Tomorrow, we're going to a picnic at 4pm in Forest Park. Unless it rains, in which case we'll have to reschedule. The rest of the weekend we're clearing out the home office to get some nice new home office furniture next week! And maybe next week I'll get my TV back. And maybe some time after that, we can actually have people see the house without it being a disaster-area. Aside from that, I look forward to seeing Izzy lose a few more games for the Cards. What are you doing this weekend?...
