Oh say, can you see, what the plans are tonight? O'er the evening I'll work, then the Royale's in sight. Etc., so on....Nathan's in town, and will be at the Royale at nine-ish. You should visit him there. Tomorrow, if there is a place to look at dogs, I'll do that, then it's off to Xian's parents for some family time, followed by a trip to those one people's house for grilling and whatnot. I will miss the annual softball game--will you be able to make it? Sunday: More work, and then round two of my first ever go-around with D&D. What should I name my character?...

So not only do a couple of pop culture icons and a pin up girl pass away this week, but also there's a massive heat wave settled right in on the Lou with no intention of going anywhere any time soon. How do you cope with the loss of MJ and the 90 degree heat? Lying on the cold, concrete basement floor listening to Thriller comes to mind... but that's a pretty sorry image. Bug and I watched Captain EO last night, and I woke up with that song stuck in my head. If you haven't watched that (movie? music video? short film?) work of art yet, I highly suggest it as an exercise in surrealism and WTF-ism. Seriously. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, produced by George Lucas, co-starring Angelica Houston. Captain EO. Go watch it . I'll wait. The rest of my weekend? Something like this.... Tonight: Dinner at EBL . I read this Q&A on the proper method of consuming the salted goodness of a margarita, and it made me all crave-y. Go read it. It'll make you want a margarita too. I'll wait. Tomorrow:...

I for one, am ready for the weekend. Being out of town last weekend and out on the town every night this week has done its toll on the house, the laundry and the garden. But I did get to eat a lovely dinner and watch two baseball games, so I'm not complaining. Tonight: I have had a request for Indian food, and since i'm never one to pass up paneer, and since only a few folks got to join us last time we ate there, and since they have a lovely big back room that can accomodate all of us and is very baby-friendly, I suggest India's Rasoi. Come join us, have a vegetarian feast or some non-veg thingy, eat, drink and be merry. Also, DeManda offers this tempting morsel from last week... Next Friday: for those of you into this type of thing: we're watching Friday the 13th I and II at my place--be there! Tomorrow: Family reunion, Baby's 1st Birthday, laundry, laundry, laundry (seriously, it's getting desperate, like bachelor-style, maybe I need to run out and buy some more underpants desperate)....

I believe a good many of us are heading up to Chicago for the memorial remembering our friend, Stephanie Morris. If you can't make the trip, or weren't lucky enough to know Stephanie, you can keep a watch on St. Louis for us this weekend. Don't let it go anywhere, all right? Tonight: If you're not headed up to the Windy City via train, plane or automobile, you should maybe eat something. Tomorrow: If you're not attending the Stephanie Morris memorial at the Hideout, you could, I don't know, bum around the park or something. Sunday: If you're not headed back to the Lou, you could totally lounge around the house. What are you really up to this weekend?...

Honestly, this weekend snuck up on me crazy fast. I am not prepared! But I plan to enjoy it anyways. Tonight: Dinner. I'm just gonna say EBL, even though I had lunch there yesterday. Why, you ask? Because it's just that good. So there. Burritos for all! Afterward, I will be spinning records at the Royale. It's supposed to be a lovely, clear night, so come on out and enjoy some fine music and fine cocktails on the patio or indoors. I am not one to judge your seating preference. Tomorrow: Running some errands, lounging in the back yard on the new chaise lounges that Bug just got us. I'll be up for fun time that evening, so let me know what's going on. Sunday: Family reunion, then more lounging, I expect. How about you? How's your weekend looking?...

We now return to our regularly scheduled life: overwhelming email inbox, followed by frantic catch up with work stuff, and a swiftly approaching weekend. The Bahamas were amazing. We didn't get back home till late, late, late last night and I'm still a little loopy, quite frankly. But it's good to be home, even with a mountain of laundry looming in front of me like some sort of evil, domestic mirage. This weekend, shall we? Tonight : Bug is craving Indian, which is always all right in my book. He has, however, proposed an interesting plan. How do you all feel about trying the Tandoori Hut again? I don't know what it's actually called, but it's the Indian place there at the corner of Fyler & Hampton. The place that used to be a Pizza Hut. The service has been sketchy in the past, but where would we be without supporting our local business owners? While the restaurant has been dead to me for some time, I think I am willing to give it another shot. After all, life is nothing without adventure....

Three day weekend! Three day weekend! Whee! I will spend tonight working--we have grammy-nominated kora player Mamadou Diabate here at the Museum as part of the annual African Arts Festival in Forest Park. Free. 7 p.m. I assume most of y'all will be dinin' it, though--discuss where that will be in the ensuing posts. Saturday: Joe-B-Que! Who wants to go with me, say, 2:30/3-ish? There's another, bird-related bbq in the evening, if I can stand it. Sunday: African art projects and musicians at the Art Hut, 1-4. I hear there's softball somewhere while I'm working--have fun! Monday: Ahem. Important people are celebrating birthdays, but have not yet decided how. Stay tuned. Oh, yeah--there's also some sort of less-important holiday going on....

This weekend is looking good. Real good. First of all, it isn't cluttered with a ton of stuff. Now, I love a full social calendar as much as the next gal, but sometimes it's good to just bum around, you know? Second, it's looking like the weather isn't going to be total crap, which is always a nice thing. Third, I have a new couch. It isn't the most squashy & lounge-y of couches, but it's still good for sitting on. Also, the other couch was the last major hand-me-down in the house, so now Bug & I are all like grown ups and stuff. So this weekend, eh? Tonight: I would love to have dinner at King & I. I'm craving some curry, yo. This is one of those places that we really, really need a reservation for (since the alternative is waiting an hour) so if you think you are even remotely interested in joining us for dinner, please let me know before 5pm. Tomorrow: Since all the weeds in the garden have magically disappeared, the bushes have been trimmed, and we've got tons of flowers...

Epic Car Alarm FAIL. Every time the thunder claps, some moron's car alarm goes off. (How's that for an angry re-make of "It's A Wonderful Life"?) Yes, so anyway, it's raining, it's pouring. It's Friday morning! Here's the things I know about this weekend... Tonight: Pending getting my records together in a timely fashion, I may be joining you all for dinner. Bug suggested Lilly's (the little Mexican place on Kingshighway). Sounds A-OK to me. Afterwards, I will be playing those previously gathered records at the Royale. Music starts at 10pm. Shenanigans start promptly at 11:30pm. I don't really know about the shenanigans, but I do expect a fun time will be had by all. Tomorrow: Daytime is theoretically going to be sunny. Perfect for some outdoor, yard-related activities! I'll probably be poking around in the back garden and/or tackling a giant, tree-like weed taking over one of the bushes in the front yard. Good times. Then, I believe there is a Cinco de Shindig going down for our own Ms....

I will celebrate workers' solidarity by working. How about you? I'm posting a bit early this week 'cause I don't think I'll be able to post on Friday, and I want to get some info out: Glamwreck and Cobra are in town! Friday: I think I might actually get out of work in time to HL--someone should call me and let me know where we wind up. I call no Sameem, but that's all the opinion I have about that. Saturday: Working in the daytime, so I will be missing the big Derby Day party at the Royale--are any of you making a big, fancy hat to wear the the race? In the evening, I think the plan is to come over to my place to hang out with Glamwreck and Cobra--maybe we can potluck it, or maybe we can order out, or maybe we'll all just change our minds and wind up somewhere else, as plans are still a bit tentative. I'm sure we'll figure it out, but I wanted to let you all know what was up thus far... Sunday: Working, followed by not working. How 'bout ch'all?...

Yo. It's a weekend, and there's stuff afoot! What kind of stuff? You tell us! I'll talk about what I know so far: Tonight, I have Ensemble Lipzodes at the Art Hut--they're a group from IN that [who?] specializes in Baroque-era music and more. I'm pretty stoked to hear them. Tonight's programme is called "Call, Court, Casbah: Music of Muslim and Jewish Spain in Al-Andalus, Sefarad, and the Diaspora". Whew! Free, 7 p.m., you can also grab a drink and see the Ming exhibition. Trying to catch a friend's art show at Mad Art, too. Tomorrow: Day off! May try to take in the giant book sale out at West County Mall--anyone in? In the evening, my friend Andrea (from CA) will be be in town with her organization Change of State. They'll be at the Tin Ceiling with some music made by strange, water-based instruments, followed by a play about insistent complacency in the face of imminent disaster called "Take This House and Float it Away". Here's a link: http://changeofstate.org/ Sunday: Earth Day celebration...

Hey there, hi there, ho there. It's felt like a busy week to me. NHL playoffs have started, Carpenter got hurt again, Yadi stole a base, I went to something called a Tweetup (sadly NOT the dorkiest thing I've ever done), my email inbox is overflowing, and I basically ran around like a crazy busy person every other moment in-between. I am on the last pattern repeat of that gray lace slouch beret, however, so that's progress. I know you're keeping track. So anyway, it's the weekend again, and it seems rather Spring-ish out there. I'm wearing a dress sans tights today!!! That's a big win in my book. Tonight: Dinner at EBL!!!1! It seems ya'll didn't go there last weekend, which is a huge score for me, 'cause I wanna go to there tonight. And hockey won't even interfere since it doesn't start till 9pm anyway. So you can go watch that after delicious spicy potato filled burritos (or whatever you eat there, it's all good). I'm going to try to go to my cousin's birthday event later tonight at Harry's...

Happy Good Friday! Happy Passover! Really, is "happy" the right term for these things? They both seem sort of macabre. All about death and torture and slaughtering. Ugh. Give me bunnies laying eggs and hiding candy any day. Anyhoodle... Tonight: You're on your own for dinner tonight. Bug & I are going to the Bonnie Prince Billy show at the Pageant. True, we will probably have to eat dinner before then, but I don't know that we can get a big group dinner in before 8pm. Probably not if we start at 7:30, huh? So you're on you own. We still love you. It's just best for everyone this way. Tomorrow: I believe there are birthday festivities of some sort that maybe some of you will be attending. As I have no more information at this time, that's as specific as I can get. Sunday: Some of you will probably be going to church or hanging out with your families. The lucky ones will get baskets full of chocolate and plastic grass that will cling to everything in your house till Christmas. The luckiest...

That's right, chumps! My superior basketball knowledge and many hours of painstaking research and statistical analysis resulted in a fantastic and unprecedented victory in the Geeklife Yahoo brackets this year. While previous winners have accepted their win quietly, slipping humbly back into their regular lives, I intend to do no such thing. Victory is mine because I am the man!!! Woot!! Also note how they celebrated my win down in North Carolina, where my true fan base is: http://www.dailytarheel.com/multimedia/video/video-franklin-street-the-celebration-1.1646328...

I'm eating a muffin and drinking coffee. Oh wait, sorry. Thought I was on Twitter for a minute there. Anyhooo.... This weekend. Let's get all up in it. Tonight: I believe some of you are dining ala Potluck at Chez Onion at 6pm. Enjoy a casserole, salad or pasta dish for me! I won't be there 'cause I've got friends in town that I'm hoping to take to dinner. Not that they wouldn't necessarily enjoy a Potluck, just that... well, you understand, I'm sure. Anyway, said friends are Beach House , and they'll be playing a show at the Billiken Club tonight. It starts at 9pm and it's FREE. Like no monies. FREE, people. Put that in your recession and smoke it. You'd probably like Beach House. They're all sweet and dreamy and stuff. Pitchfork named them one of their top five bands of ever or something. So after you fill up on homecooked grub, come on out to the show and we can hang out. Tomorrow: Working on a mustache. For MARCH MUSTACHE MADNESS . Party starts at 8pm at the Royale. There will be prizes....

Please consider this a personal invitation to participate in the third annual St. Louis chapter of March Mustache Madness. This organized homage to the badly maligned mustache originated in Baltimore, where it has become increasingly popular each year, exalting and embracing that little lip warmer to a status beyond mere hipster irony. If you are interested in participating, all necessary information follows. Let's reclaim the 'stache! On April 4th, we'll be having a mustache party at the Royale. You must have a mustache to participate (this applies to the ladies, too) . There will be a mustache maintenance booth for last minute improvements or impromptu participation. The evening will feature mustache music from your favorite mustachioed musicians of the 70's and 80's. Prizes will be awarded for Best Homegrown Mustache, Best Handmade Mustache, Best Celebrity Look-Alike Mustache and Most Original Mustache. If you're on the Facebook, you can check the event there and invite all of your friends....

Hello. Hello, again. Spring Weekend 2009! Kinda like Spring Break, but for grownups and chopped up into tiny intervals scattered throughout a month! Whoo hoo! What are you gonna do with your Spring Weekend? Beer pong? Keg stands? Maybe get an ill-planned tattoo? Or, how about this... Tonight: King & I. We will probably have to make a reservation, since the last time a bunch of us showed up, we had to wait a rather long-ish time for a table. So if you're planning on joining us for delicious curries and crazy drinks filled with umbrellas, let me know by 5pm. If you're uncertain of your dinner fate by then, you're still more than welcome to join us, you just might have to sit at another table. We'll still love you. The rest of the weekend: Starting the serious spring cleaning of the house. I don't entirely know what this will entail, but I think there's some re-arranging, removing and scrubbing in my future. Good times! Let me know if you're up to anything more fun. Also, people in the...

Well, it's sorta warm, and it's kinda sunny, and it's more or less spring, and it is most assuredly a weekend. How do you plan on spending said weekend? What about my plans? How nice of you to ask! I plan on attending HL for the second week in a row! Amazing! I don't want Indian (just had it) or any other cuisine that features cumin prominently, but have no opinion beyond that. Olympia? Somewhere new? Tomorrow: Missing a very important baby shower because I have to work at a day-long symposium on Ming-Era decorative arts, sculpture, and painting. sigh. In the late afternoon, if I get out of work in time, I plan on going to the opening of Binge and Purge, a new vintage clothing/knick-knack/misc. ship run by Ashley of Vultures fame--anyone wanna join me? And later that night? Not a clue yet. You? Sunday: Work, unwind, sleep! Note on next weekend: I've planned this huge Ming Family Festival Weekend, with music, dance, artists' demos, martial arts, theatre, storytelling, tea tastings,,,Saturday...

Every year we set up college basketball brackets for Geeklife. Sure, these days nobody goes to GL, except to see where people are eating dinner on Friday nights. I am unable to let tradition die, however, and once again set up Yahoo Sports brackets under the name "Geeklife," and am inviting all to join. So there. To do so: 1. You must have a yahoo account of some sort. 2. Go to http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com 3. Find our group - it's called "Geeklife," and the ID# is 76065 and the password is "geeklife" 4. Pick some random, or carefully researched brackets. You can even make 2 different brackets this year - one stupid one and one serious one. 5. If you win, you get to brag about it all year and everyone will forever remember your amazing and insightful picks, just like the person who won last year... it was, um... not me, I don't think. 6. You can make your bracket beginning Sunday (3/15) night, and it has to be done by the start of the first game on Thursday morning (3/19). Keep...

From Friday the 13th to the Ides of March, that's some superstition-laden creep fest weekend, huh? So what are you going to do with it? Where you go at? What you up to? Me? I've got some pans involving... Tonight: Dinner. With you guys. Someplace. How about El Burrito Loco? I think it's been a little while since we've been there. Yummy, delicious burritos. Chips, guac, margaritas. I rest my case. Later tonight: I'm DJing at the Royale. Starts at 10pm. Frosty beers, fancy cocktails, charming company. And EPIC DANCE JAMZ. Saturday & Sunday: House stuff, including some of that clearing out of the attic that did not get done last weekend. New computer stuff, including trying to fill the hard drive immediately with music and Harry Potter movies. Because I need back ups to my back ups. Don't try to reason with me, it is just the way I am. I would totally be up for dinner/drinks/dancing on Saturday night, so give me a call if you have any thoughts. Saint Patrick's Day: I don't really get to...

For the first time in a long time, I think I'm going to be able to get some stuff done this weekend. Like cast on for a gray lace slouchy beret. And exchange a pretty dress for one (ahem) a size larger that will hopefully fit my now middle-aged self. Also, I'm feeling like I might be ready to attack the hip-deep mess of boxes that have taken over my guest room since Christmas. Aside from the bumming-round-the-house and tackling home projects, my weekend is refreshingly free. Tonight: Bug would like to eat outside. Since we've got the time, and the inclination, what say we try out Banh Mi So #1? What are you up to for your weekend?...

So far I can't complain about this whole being 30 thing. People bring you presents, everyone's nice to you, and you get to eat a fancy dinner where the chef keeps bringing you surprise courses. It's really awesome. In an attempt to keep this streak alive, I will hopefully be doing the following stuff this weekend... Tonight: Dinner at India's Rasoi. If you are interested in joining us for dinner, please comment, because I am going to have to make a reservation for us. I'll try to get that nifty back room, if there's enough of us. Let me know if you're joining us before 5pm, and I'll take care of the rest. Tomorrow: Mani/pedi during the day. Partying hardy in the evening. Sunday: Resting and relaxing. So what's your weekend looking like? Any good turning 30 stories to share?...

Hi, welcome to my blog! So, what're you up to this weekend? Tonight, there's an art opening at the Hunt Gallery that Prof. Hotpants may go to. I may or may not, it is all up in the air, as one may say. Either way, I'm up for some food. Anyone know of any new places, or places we haven't gone to in awhile? Too bad, we're going to Lemongrass tonight. I mean, I would like to, if'n you're up for it. Circle one. "YES" "NO" "MAYBE, BUT REALLY I MEAN NO, BUT I DON'T WANT TO SUGGEST ANOTHER PLACE." Tomorrow night I'm going to a family birthday dinner for the Prof., and then heading to one of the remaining few places to catch Coraline in 3D. I hear it's good, even though (because?) nothing flies at your head. Remember, remembruary, the 28th of February. Because that's when you'll be going to Mangia to celebrate Ms. Hotpants's 30th b-day. What else is going on this weekend?...

Hi, Y'alls! It's one of them thar weekend-type things again--how will you waste it? As for me, I'll be working late-ish, and then I'll be going to an art show featuring some co-workers and friends. After that, I'll prolly go to see that nice Hotpants lady spin records with that charming Mark Early (they're going to be at the Royale, don't you know). Tomorrow, I'll be working it again, and then who can say? The boy-type is working, so no romantical adventures for me on this most commercial of sappy weekends (no sour grapes there, no sir), but I hope to get a smooch from him later. Sunday? Why, it's more of the work (anyone else out there married to their desk?), and then some chillin'--I hope to see that new Joss Whedon show, Dollhouse, which someone is kindly TiVo-ing for me this evening. Maybe painting, as I'm about to commit to an actual art show to take place in the distant future. Now you go:...

Uni Watch has a bunch of photos from a fan who attended the Las Vegas Wranglers' bizarre "Prison Jersey Night" game. You haven't seen players dressed this ridiculously since the St. Louis Blues of the 1990s. Since the ECHL isn't the East Coast Hockey League anymore, maybe it's just aiming to be known as the "Ech League."...
