It's eerily, almost, near spring-like outside. It's sunny, and warmish during the day. I know it's just a tease, and next week we'll be back to snow plows and igloos, but golly it would be nice for spring to show up. So what are your plans for this fine, spring-y weekend? Tonight: I can do dinner around 7pm at a place that's baby friendly if baby-having people are interested. The only really baby friendly spot I know is EBL (love you all, but I can't hack Happy Joes or Chuck E Cheese). If you know of other baby friendly places that are also welcoming to those above the legal drinking age, let me know. Tomorrow: I honestly don't know. I imagine things like housework, knitting, tuxedo shopping, and invitation suite perusing are in order. Is anything going on tomoorw night? Am I forgetting something? Sunday: I'm going to the first in a long line of wedding showers for various cousins. I know you're jealous. So really, like, what are you up to?...

They say it's my birthday! It's your birthday too, yeah! We're gonna have a good time! We're going to have a party... party! Tonight: Dinner at Rasoi. I've got reservations for 12 of us at 8pm. If you don't think you're part of that, but you want to be, just give me a call and I'll add you in. After that, around 10pm or so, we're headed to my place for cake, Ted Drewes, and drinks. I would not be disappointed if there were also some dancing going on. Tomorrow: Recovery, maybe looking at some dresses, then some trivia for kittens. Sunday: Maybe looking at some dresses, maybe having tea with scones, maybe a very late brunch. Let me know how you feel about cream tea with scones. So what are you up to?...

So, I'm ready for spring. I'm really over this whole winter, coats, lingering snow nonsense. Also, I'm ready for burritos. Tonight: EBL, if you're with me. It's not very creative, and I know it's my number one most suggested thing, and I know I've been on a Mexican food kick lately. I blame it on the drab wintery blech outside. Doesn't that gray sky and gray snow and gray everything make you want some spicy food and a drink the size of your head? I will not be suggesting Mexican next week, because I have another plan (for my birthday). Later tonight: Mark Early and Nathan Keay are playing records at the Royale. The theme is "women who rock". And there's nothing wrong with that. Tomorrow: Checking out a florist by day, maybe hanging out with you by night? Dinner? Drinks? Dancing? Sunday: Bride stuff more or less all day. There's a bridal show at Busch Stadium I'm thinking about attending, and a "Bridal Party" at Crate & Barrel, where you get one of those cool scanner thingys to pretend...

So it's like Valentine's Day weekend and stuff. Also, Lincoln's Birthday! Also, some other things! I made some "sweet" Woot Valentines that you can print out and share with your sweetheart, if you are so inclined. Our good friend Matthew also made some "bitter" Valentines that you can leave on the windshield of your neighbor who always double parks. So let's see what's happening this weekend, shall we? Tonight: Food. I records to sort through and such, so I probably won't make it to a normal dinnertime Happy Life. I might be able to make it if there were a faction of you who were up for a later dinner, though. What would you think about 8:15pm at Seki Sui? I think if there weren't a ton of us, that would be do-able. I could always call for a reservation if there are a ton of folks wanting to go (they've expanded the restaurant, you go in the side door off Arsenal now). Otherwise, if there's a separate faction who can't wait that long or hate the sushis, you can always meet up later at the...

Greetings and Salutations, everyone. (Who's seen "Heathers" recently? I have!) Whatcha got going on this soggy and mucky and cold and possibly fun weekend? Here's what I aim to do: Tonight: I'd like to try to hit the opening at the Kemper, which our friend Raygun installed, but Mark's sonic art show on Webster's campus is also tonight, so I'm not sure I can make it. Hey, Mark--where exactly is this place, and what time are we supposed to arrive? After, a friend is having birthday drinks at a bar around town, and I plan on toasting her. Tomorrow: homework, gym, cleaning, etc. A surprise thing for a non-Geeklifer (shh...don't tell!). Sunday: Not really sure just yet. maybe breakfast somewhere, maybe more gym, maybe lolling about with a book. Oh, yeah, and stuffing something for SUPARRRFOOOOTS! See you there! Tuesday: POLYSICS (and Glass Teeth) at the Firebird!!! Also: Laundry, and lots of it. Sheesh, but I go through clothes fast. It's only been, like, weeks since I've done some serious laundering,...

Is it just me, or are the weeks flying by at an alarming pace? I swear it was just New Year's, and now a whole new month is already upon us. Anyway, I'm looking forward to February and all the delights that it holds. Groundhog's Day, Superfoot, Valentine's Day (or anti-Valentine's Day, if that's more your style), and my birthday. Mark your calendars now, people. February 26th is reserved for FUN. But I'm getting ahead of myself. What shall we do with these last, few precious days of the palindromic 01/10? Tonight: I'm up for dinner. I'm thinking El Paisano might be a good fit. It's the Mexican restaurant near the corner of Watson and Fyler. We've been in a bit of a restaurant rut, and this is slightly off our beaten path. They promise they will "Take Your Taste Buds on an Unforgettable Journey" and they serve jalapeno poppers, so I think that's a win-win right there. Saturday: Bug & I are going to a very dorky baseball lunch at Mike Shannon's. I believe there will be lots of obscure...

Seems like there's lots going on this weekend. So much stuff, in fact, I can't remember it all. I will do my best.... Tonight: How do you all feel about La Tropicana for dinner? Sure, they don't have their patio open because of the freezing cold and all, but they have expanded the seating area indoors. Just think Coronas, empanadas, margaritas, fried plantains and tres leches cake. So delicious. Doesn't' that sound good? Also it is right down the street from my house where I will be assembling records till the absolute last minute. Because I'm DJing tonight. At the Royale. With maybe a special guest DJ. And records. So you should come check that out. Tomorrow: After getting my hairs cut, I will probably lounge around the house till evening when maybe I will eat some food with some people and then head to the Crack Fox to hear Mark early play some records with some other people I know. Do you remember Monday nights at the Upstairs Lounge and penny pitchers of PBR? It's those people. Fun...

Well, the snow melted. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to pieces, but now it's all about a big, sucking mire outside (sucking as in 'sucks-your-shoes-off', not 'totally suxxors'). At least it's warmer now! Whatcha doin' this weekend? Me? I'd love to join everyone for a food, and then I'm going to go to a birthday party for my friends John and Josh (twins!). How about Lemongrass? Tomorrow, I'm exercising, cleaning, and hoping to finally win at Soulard School Trivia after two years of coming *this* close. Sunday, it's all about the relaxing, maybe the breakfast, not sure what else. Any thoughts?...

Sorry for the lateness, but I got rather distracted with, you know, life and stuff. Here's my weekend-y thoughts... Tonight: I'm going to the hospital! Just to visit. I don't plan on staying. After that, I'm going home to bed and lame-ville. Whoo-hoo! Saturday: Looking at a wedding venue in the AM, possibly brunching, then chillin' at the house for a bit. I would be up for dinner/drinks since I'll be missing any Friday night HL festivities. How about India's Rasoi? Has it been long enough that we could return there? I could put the hurt on some naan. anyway, let me know if you're up for it and I'll make us reservations for tomorrow night. Say 7pm? Sunday: Bride stuff. What-what!? How about you? Any big plans for this snowy, arctic weekend?...

Who's the sucker who is at work today? Me, that's who! I thought I'd write up a RL post to while away a few minutes. Some plans for the weekend: Tonight: NYE at JB's with all of you guys, I hope? Maybe a stop of two along the way for me if I feel ambitious enough. Friday: Pancakes and Back to the Future with some pals, then recuperation, maybe some resolution-making. Saturday: Not a durned thing. Sunday: See Saturday. I'd love to do some hanging out/dining/etc. on Sat or Sun, if anyone is interested....

Gots lots of work to do yet, so I will keep this short... Tonight: making merry with the fam. Food, carols, more food, rob your neighbor, some food, a visit from Santa, and probably some more food. Tomorrow: PRESENTS (the reason for the season). Saturday: Lounging in the daytime. Just relaxing. Maybe sipping some nog by the fire in front of the tree. You know how I roll. I'd be up for hanging out in the evening with those who are around for hanging out. Maybe dinner? Sunday: Xmas 2.0 = more food, more fam. How about your weekend?...

Cripes! The Holiday is nigh! I'm not ready! I will stall even longer by participating in some weekend cheer with my friends. What are you up to? Tonight: I may actually be able to eat a food with some of you--any thoughts? Tomorrow: Making vegetatian marshmallows, taking a test, and answering some trivia questions. Sunday: Making things, making merry, feting my lil sis on her pop-out....

There are approximately one billion things being planned for this holiday season, and this first December weekend is no exception. How are you doing on your holiday prep? We've got the decorations up in the living room, the tree is trimmed and the stockings are hung, but Bug has decided that makes the rest of the house not festive enough, so we may be trying to remedy that. The gift situation is in a woeful state at the moment, but I am hoping that by the powers of the internet I can get some presents out to California for our early Christmas/new niece visit next weekend. Till then... Tonight: YGM has requested India's Rasoi for dinner, and I'm seconding it. Who am I to deny the delights of the Vegetarian Feast? Afterward, please head over to the Royale where I'll be spinning records under the twinkling Christmas lights. There'll be some Christmas jamz and and a special late night visit by our favorite bearded elf, Mark Early. Tomorrow: Christmas presenting, card writing, eggnog sipping,...

Yo - Thanksgiving weekend - wazzup? I think pretty much everybody's out of town (including us, until about 20 minutes ago). If anybody's reading this and interested, the fam' and I will be looking for dinner companions in a few hours. Holla. Rest of weekend - Not driving to Iowa with a toddler. We've done that for the holiday season, thanks. You?...

Hey, it's the weekend before Thanksgiving weekend! There's so much house puttering needing to be done this weekend, that I am disinclined to schedule much for my precious weekend hours. Maybe I'll get a second wind, but until then, here's the plan... Tonight: Dinner. I ate at EBL yesterday, but you know what? I want it again. It's soo freaking good. What do you think? After that, maybe Mark is spinning at the Royale? I'm not sure. If so, I will probably head over that'a'way. Tomorrow: The aforementioned puttering. I have meals to plan, laundry to wash, and with any luck, some baking to do. Tomorrow night: I don't know. How about you? Sunday: Completing any puttering left undone. How's about your weekend?...

GUY FAWKES WEEKEND! Tonight: I'm DJing at the Royale, starting at 10pm. Be there, get your groove on, get your drink on, shake a tail feather. Prior to that, I imagine some folks will be getting some food. I don't know if I'll be able to join you, so I don't know if I should suggest a dining location. Somewhere in South City, not too far from the Royale, so you can all come there after you eat. Saturday: Bug and I will be getting the house ready, then getting our costumes ready for Guy Fawkes 2009: Book Titles! P-a-r-t-y! Show up at our place around 9pm, bring booze if you like, have a grand old time. Sunday: Sleep. Wish someone else would clean my house. Sleep. How about you?...

If you missed the earlier Geeklife post and any Facebook conversation going on about it, well, you'd better be getting your costume act together. The party's Saturday night at my place. Write me (dave at woot) if you don't know where I live or how to get there. I'll have some public crappy beer and chips, but feel free to bring good beer and/or appetizers. I like to keep the specific costumes a secret, but I'm interested in a) how many costume ideas did you go through before you came up with The One and b) how hard was it to gather the things, build the parts, and get the costume together? Barbara and I spent an evening at the Royale brainstorming through all the books we could think of. We narrowed it down to a half dozen possibilities that seemed fun, and then applied the "is it available at Target/Johnny Brock's/Schnuck's" filter to come up with our final designs. I'm going to go truly last minute and put the final costume together on Saturday afternoon, so we'll see how all that works...

Seems like a good weekend is stretching out before us. Bug is out of town, so I have lofty plans of knitting, watching movies I love for the umpteenth time, winterizing the garden, and reading my new book of etiquette in Jane Austen's time (how does one properly open a formal ball?). What's on your agenda? Tonight: I'll be skipping Happy Life in favor of the Famous Fictional Villians art opening at the Mad Art gallery. I believe our own Raygun and Redbird will be among the artists featured. I hear "It goes from 7 to 11, there'll be Hors d'œuvres, a cash bar, and tunes spun by TONE WOLF." Doesn't that sound like FUN!? Saturday: Bumming around in the day, maybe meeting some folks for dinner or drinks in the evening? Let me know if there's anything good going on. If not, maybe I will try to watch all five Harry Potter movies this weekend. Or the whole BBC Pride & Prejudice miniseries. Gotta have some sense of accomplishment, you know? Sunday: Quite possibly hanging out in my pajamas all...

Well even though this ongoing wet, rainy mess has been lingering for weeks, the rumor is that it's actually supposed to clear up tomorrow. We'll see about that. There's one thing no weather's gonna stop from coming, and that's Halloween. In case your costume is not yet ready, that's tomorrow, folks. It is right up on us. So what are your plans to celebrate? Tonight: Punkins and pizza at the Onion Hut. I hear this shindig goes from 6pm - 9pm and is friendly towards the wee tot set. I believe there will be pumpkin carving, if you're into that sort of thing. Saturday: Halloween! I think the rain has made me procrastinate as long as possible this year, because we have no candy and I'm not 100% sure our porch light works. Hopefully, we can take care of all of that Saturday morning, or else the millions of trick-or-treaters descending on our home will have to settle for granola bars or fruit roll-ups in their goody bags. They're closing the street to traffic this year, and there's a kid/pet costume...

Tonight: even though we were there a few weeks ago, I am ready to go back for more EBL. Really, a margarita sounds like perfection just about now. Who's with me? Saturday: Cuban Missle Crisis Party at the Royale, then pumpkiny pumpkining at the Deer's. Hopefully the squirrels will leave enough pumpkin that they are still carvable. Sunday: up in the wee hours for a family photo shoot. (Bug's my assistant, so not too many shots of pumpkin tequila, all right, Deer?) Also, it's official: the Guy Fawkes 2009 theme is Book Titles . Come dressed as your interpretation of your favorite book title. Not a character in the book, but the book's title. Maybe I will post the event on Facebook or something, so you can see who's invited. I think there's a few friends who don't frequent Geeklife that we would still like to see at the party. So how about your weekend? Any big plans?...

Go Porkchop, it was his birthday. Go Porkchop, it was his birthday...If I didn't have to go to work, I'd photoshop up a little porkchop with a birthday hat. Can somebody with a goof-off job get on that for me? Thanks. I suggested that he should pick the Happylife restaurant, on account of it was his birthday, but he claims that's the worst present ever because he hates having the pressure of being the one to pick. So, um, somebody else pick. Plus, with Porkchop Jr.'s schedule, you never know who from our family will actually be awake and able to attend. I still vote no Applebee's, even if I'm not able to go, since I'll still have to put up with take-out. What else is going on this weekend? I hear the Birke family is hosting a picnic on Sunday, so we'll get in on that action. Any excuse to hang out with Miles - that kid's a riot. Also maybe we'll sit around and sip some Woot wine, if the UPS guy times his delivery right. Otherwise, sittin' around waiting for that Indian summer the weather...

First up, because I've been meaning to post this for awhile: The Guy Fawkes Day party will be on November 14th this year. Later than usual, because of Halloween falling on a Saturday and because I'm out at a conference the next weekend. It'll just give us more time to procrastinate our costumes. Speaking of costumes, there's been a big push for a re-run of a theme of years past: Before & After. I'm up for that, but there's also possibilities like clichés, puns, dress-like-the-name-of-an-animal-but-not-the-animal, book titles, mash-up fictional characters, internet memes, etc. Feel free to vote for one and/or suggest new ones below. Maybe you'll be busy doing that all weekend, but if not, here's what I know of tonight's plans: Our own Prof. Hotpants will be spinning at the Royale tonight. Be there, or get kicked out. Prior to that, I'll be eating some dinner. Lemongrass? What else is going on this weekend? I'm probably going to watch some baseball, but it's hard to even think about it...

Hi, Everybody! What are your plans for this crisp fall weekend? Here's how it's gonna go for me: Tonight: Working late, and then attending Bacchus at the Basin, a big wine and food party at the bottom of Art Hill. Hey, Deer--did you get my message about being my date? If she can't make it, does anyone else wanna be my plus one? All the wine and cute little mini foods you can handle... Tomorrow: cleaning/dog walking/farmer's marketing/gym-classing/drawing/reading in the daytime, and a Brazilian wedding party in the evening, where I suspect I will see many of you! Sunday: Maybe some work, plus a big, sprawling, Irish-style family reunion (Xian's). Dog park, maybe? Now you go....

Hey, WTF, who dropped the ball on the HL posting? Me? Oh, right. Tonight: Porkchop Jr. Jr's taking an early evening snooze, so maybe he'll wake up and be looking for dinner, or maybe we'll get take out - give us a call if you're reading this so late in the day. I hear Tim Hutchings is having an art opening tonight, but looks like we ain't making it. Saturday: Maybe we'll head off for Strange Folk - let me know if you're interested... What's the happening on Saturday night? Beats me. Sunday: Who's to say?...

This weekend my good buddy Jeff will be coming to town, the evil Chi-town Cubbies will be here as well, and there's going to be balloons and fire in the park! Tonight: The Kemper Museum will be having the opening reception for their new Fall shows from 7pm - 9pm. Go visit Raygun and tell him he's done a nice job making all that art stuff look good. This weekend is also The Great Forest Park Balloon Race , so if you're in the neighborhood, you can check out the Balloon Glow tonight in Central Field, from 7pm - 8:30pm, with fireworks at 9pm. All of this sounds great to me, so I think I'm going to try to make it to as much of that stuff as possible. If you're interested in joining me, I'm thinking a late dinner in the Loop (maybe Pi, maybe Eclipse, maybe Blueberry Hill) or at Katie's Pizzeria on Clayton - depends on the size of the group, I guess. Now, does anyone have any suggestions for not getting bogged down in miles of traffic and tourists to attend these events? A back entrance perhaps?...
